Shernette’s Answer

Hello Niki,
That is a great question. Your country and community could gain so much from you being a business person and an entrepreneur because as a business owner, you can always volunteer your time and give of your resources to your community. Helping your community will help other to become contributing successful and contributing members of your country. As a result of your efforts, people will be able to reach their goals and dreams and not be a burden to society.

Some great answers already! I would just add that by establishing your own business and serving our community, you are not only helping others with the goods and services you might be providing, but also giving hope to others. Sometimes people want to start a business but may not have the courage or feel they don't have the skills. You can be a shining example for others!

Shane’s Answer

This is a great question Niki. If you focus on the local community first, you have an opportunity to contribute and be part of her your community develops. Depending on what business, you may immediately start to employ other people providing opportunity, you may pay rent that helps keep a building open and attractive. Over lunch you may buy a sandwich from a local corner deli or eat at a local diner - sharing your success with those around you.

Setting up a company is hard work though - and that's where your community can help you. Support from others who help you find a place to work out of, a shoulder to lean on, a mental wall to bounce ideas off as you get off the ground can also be highly valuable.

Depending on the business you set up - and how innovative or effective it is - you can also have an impact and benefit in your country. This can be more local employment that contributes to the economy, the taxes you pay on profit that contributes to improving social services like schooling a child or elderly care or it can be transformational, positioning your country as a leader in a new industry - or a new player in an existing industry.

If you have a good idea - run with it. Don't be afraid to ask for help along the way.
