How much can students make while working full time?

Just wondering if students are able to make some good money while being in school at the same time. #college #jobs

Thank you comment icon It is hard to work full time and balance a full load of college course work. Being a fulltime student is generally 12 or more credits a semester. A lot of students work part time . Rachel

Hi Kemi!
It really depends on how open you are with your schedule. There are times where you can make a decent amount if you are a part-time student, therefore you put more time into work. However, if you are a full-time student, you need to make sure that you are putting your education first. I recommend finding a job on-campus, because the number of hours you can get vary, but there are times where you can make a decent amount working part-time on-campus. On-campus jobs are typically more flexible and are at set times, so you know when you work and you'll be free. I have also been able to juggle a couple of jobs while being a full-time student. It is definitely hectic at times, but you just need to be very mindful of your schedule. When working multiple jobs, I was able to get the money coming in pretty well, but it came with slight sacrifices. You can make a couple hundred a week, which is great, but really try to focus on your classes. When you get that degree, it will be so worth it in the end.

It all depends upon the type of job and how many credits you're taking while in college. I went to school full-time and had a part-time job all 4 years while I was in college. I worked at Footlocker, Domino's Pizza, UPS, a gift card store, IHOP, and Wilson's. Some semesters were easier than others if I was only taking 12-15 credits but once I took 18 credits and that extra class made it very tough. Also, I usually had more than one job since no one offered me all the hours I wanted.

That being said, it's important to keep your eye on the prize. Eventually you want to graduate with good grades so you get a real career that will support you when you graduate. So don't get to caught up in making good money while in school. You just need to work enough to meet your basic needs without jeopardizing your grades. I don't know what your financial situation is but please keep that in mind. Your part-time job is not supposed to be your career. It's just temporary.
