Ron’s Answer

My first assignment was to prosecute a person who committed battery and resisted a police officer.

In that assignment, I interviewed witnesses, reviewed the evidence, decided the best trial strategy, made legal arguments in front of a judge to admit my evidence, selected a jury panel, made opening statements, presented my case for the jury, cross examined the defendant, did a closing argument, and finally listen to the verdict from the jury.

Shawn A.’s Answer

My first assignment was when I was a summer associate at a medium sized law firm that worked on environmental development for a large retailer. I wrote a Complaint (the document that begins any lawsuit) for a specific case. I had to learn about what the elements of a specific cause of action were, then learn about the facts of the case to make sure I was satisfying the various elements as I wrote up the complaint.
