Joshua’s Answer

Find out if your school has a ROTC program and start asking questions or sign up. If your school, doesn't have one, ask your guidance counselor to get you some information. If you go to a military recruiting office, please make sure a parent or guardian goes with you.

Good luck!

Besides ROTC, do you have a local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol? This is structured like the military, and may broaden your views on stuff you would like to do in the military. After high school, you can enlist in the military. Be thinking of what you would like to do in life. The military has a lot of different jobs that can provide invaluable training for a career outside the military. Plus they will pay for college while you are in. A career in the military is a good option, too, but isn't for everyone. Like I said, get a job in the service that you can take your training and experience into the civilian world. I enlisted in the Marine Corps and left for boot camp 5 days after graduating HS. I was terrified that they were going to kill me during boot, but the physical aspect of boot wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, although it was still tough. They work on your mind as much as they work on your body. My advice for boot camp is to keep your ears open and your mouth shut. And don't take their insults personally. They are there to weed out anyone that isn't mentally capable and build you up into a stronger person. All in all, the military is an excellent choice, and they will provide you with the training and experience you need if you decide to return to the civilian world. Do not overlook the experience part of the equation. Employers put a huge value on experience, and veteran status is big plus to them as well. And your service is something you can be proud of your whole life. Best of luck to you!
