Hello Katy. I encourage you to look back on some music history. Briefly research or google a few artists, especially blues artists from the 1920s-1950s. Many of these artists faced challenges and were either born or raised in Southern towns, especially in Mississippi, that most people never heard of and areas that had not invested in serious infrastructure or industry since slavery, leaving generations to endure mass poverty and struggle for education, financial security, and to achieve their dreams and when some got record deals, they were often ripped off and received little to no royalties while later artists like Elvis Preseley lived to give away cars and live in a mansion on the success he garnered by observing the style of those African American R&B and Rock and Roll artists rejected that same acclaim by the same music industry. Also, you can go back to the tragic story of Florence Ballard of the Supremes. This was not that long ago, whose talent was watered down so Berry Gordy could uplift his significant other Diana Ross to superstardom.
We are in a new age but we must still educate ourselves. There are various platforms like YouTube or TikTok, and SoundCloud that you can utilize to showcase music covers or your own music. My advice, write your own music and showcase it on one of these platforms. Before uploading, build a roaster of songs to ensure consistency once you do begin your channel or platform; you can remain anonymous and utilizing imagery to draw your audience in. If needed, utilize AI to outline songs that express your anguish and struggles and even that of others; this will resonate with so many people and utilize social media for pages that further promote your music. Join independent artist music groups on social media to share ideas.
On the military, think about the current state of warfare and consider if you want to take that risk. The military offers many benefits. Evaluate the current state of the world and if you choose a different path, there are similar pathways, such as EMT certificate school, Police Officer, Police Dispatch, Security, Artifical Intelligence work and gigs, and more.
Furthermore, utilize the FAFSA if you do want to attend college to ensure you know if you qualify for federal financial aid that will help you pay for college to study music, business, or whatever you want to study. Look for local organizations that may sponsor scholarships or grants. We are in a new age and you can utilize website building sites to build your own brand and business to market and promote your music. THIS WAY YOU OWN YOUR MUSIC AND EARN POTENTIAL EXTRA INCOME.
If you do want to attend college to study something related to your passion, here's a site that will help you find scholarships for your state and walk you through cautionary provisions if you do have to take out a student loan: https://greenecloudconsulting.netlify.app/#

To agree with Dr's answer, they definitely do! I would say most people who meet success have a long story of having or being troubled, they just didn't accept no as an answer.
Some people have a little bit more at birth than others, and that's OK that is life. Some have more money, some are taller, some have talents, some have a famous last name, etc. It may feel like they are able to do everything they want to in life but sometimes that isn't the case always. A lot of people you and I look to as being successful had a struggle in the back we didn't see. The reason they made it to where they are now is because they did not allow that struggle to define them, or if it did they made sure to put a positive spin on it.
I am average height for an adult male in the United States. The reason I am not a basketball player is not because I am too short, its because I never tried to become one. I never made the effort. Why did I not make the effort? Probably because someone said "you aren't 7ft tall so you won't ever play basketball professionally, don't bother trying". I don't remember a specific time that happened but I'm sure I was told that and accepted it as the truth and just never tried. I am not sad I don't play basketball professionally but taking an answer and accepting it was easier than challenging it.
The general population will often default to "you can't", "you shouldn't", or "you weren't born that way" because they didn't do something so they think you can't. Don't listen to them. Also, this is difficult for some to say, but you are going to change in your life and that's a good thing! Embrace the changes you need to make and continue to challenge yourself and grow!
We all have a struggle of some kind, even if you don't see it. Get through your struggle, use every lesson you learn, and do the thing you always wanted to do! Two soldiers that became performers that I can think of are Jimi Hendrix and Shaggy. Look them up and learn about them!
Look up and learn about Mellody Hobson. Listen to interviews about how she grew up and where she is now, it's very impressive.
Find a biography (book or movie) about Martha Stewart. She is really an incredible story and did not let the answer "no" ever stop her!
Read up about entertainers that were in the military, I could only think of Hendrix and Shaggy right now. Also look up entertainers that performed in the USO.

I completely disagree.
I've been watching reruns of Shark Tank and each one of these sharks were self made millionaires or billionaires. Mark Cuban admitted to eating ketchup and mustard sandwiches and knocking on doors to sell items. Barbara was dyslexic and was called dump and she wanted to prove everyone wrong. Robert's father didn't speak English and started his job in the United States sweeping floors. Damion lived in Queens and his mother used their house to support his business. He hustled and sold his products on the street.
My own father was dirt poor. He had beriberi because he was so malnourished and didn't have anything to eat. He worked hard and studied like crazy to come from another country and get a PhD from UC Berkeley.
It's because they were poor that they had the drive and hunger to be successful. For people who have wealth, sometimes, I feel they may be a little lazier because they didn't need to struggle. For those who are hungry, you have nothing to do but go up and work yourself to the bone to succeed.

They do. But it takes more than that. Success comes to those who can turn their struggles into creative energy and passion, that is expressed in a way that others can understand and find inspirational. And of course there's also luck... being in the right place at the right time, with the right people, etc. I also find it interesting that you pair the interests of soldiering and singing. Reminds me of James Blunt's story.
