Do your middle school grades count for future jobs or highschools/colleges?
I failed completely last year during online school (it wasnt my kind of thing) but this year ive had all b's and c's, would last years grades affect anything in my future? #future # #college #college-advice

Hey Aleeciah! I remember being a below average 'C' student in middle school. My honest feelings were I found my classes boring and I would rather play Halo 2. In my life as a 30 year old, my middle school grades aren't something I've thought of in a very long time. Everything will turn out completely fine if you do poorly, but it's important to understand how getting good grades in middle school keeps doors open to new opportunities!
When you are a stellar student in middle school you're able to access really exciting 'advanced placement' classes in high school that can lead you to explore areas in depth that you won't go as far in the standard classes. At the middle school / high school age most students don't know who they are or what they want to be. It's important to try to keep as many doors open as possible so you can explore the areas that interest you. By going further in different subjects you can build relationships with other people who like what you are interested in!
For example, while I didn't do well in middle school, I made a real effort to do well my freshmen year and get into an 'advanced placement' class for Psychology in high school. I love psychology because I got to learn more about how people operate. I built some of my closest high school friendships in that class, and ultimately went to college for Psychology. In college I continued to study psychology and specialize in Human Factors Psychology, or the study of human error. Going further in this area led me to the career I have in User Experience Design, which uses my Psychology knowledge to reduce the amount human error through making really well thought out designs.
Always do your best to keep opportunities open, but if doors do close, it's important to move forward and learn from your past.

No, your middle school grades will not impact your future career and jobs. Although, you do need a decent high school GPA when applying for colleges. Especially, if you want to get into a very good university where they require a good GPA and ACT/SAT scores. For your college career you do need at least a C or better to pass the course, and must complete all require courses for your degree. If you make a lower grade letter, then you may need to retake the course till you pass. Depending on your career the university may take a D. Also, if you want to apply for scholarships you do need a certain GPA to get it.

Your middle school has no affect on your college or jobs. The only affect it would have on high school is what level of classes you would be taking. If you failed a math class the counselor may suggest a lower level math for HS. Other than that it has no bearing your HS unless you are applying to some private school.

I have a 7th grader who also struggled with the online platform for their schooling and their grades suffered as a result. I initially wanted to do the helicopter parent thing and stress out about how those grades in middle school would affect my child's class place in high school therefore affecting his college applications and so on....BUT the school system here assured me they understood the pandemic created changes in student academic behavior that were inevitable so did not want us to be afraid. It really helped for me and my student to sit down/virtual visit with the guidance counselor and identify why my student was struggling with online coursework so we could come up with a plan to get him back ready for high school/in person studies. Doing this really left us more at ease.

Hi Aleeciah, Don't worry about your middle school grades, they will not apply when you apply for college. Last year was a hard year for many students and some just learn better in person instead of online. High school grades are important for college application but that is not the only thing colleges look for. Make the most out of your highschool experience, join clubs, activities to do things for your community.
Find your passion and be engaged and have fun is the best way to learn. Ask questions if you don't understand something, your teachers are there to help you succeed. You may need teacher reccomendations for your college applications, so get to know your teachers, communicate with them, show them you are trying and working hard. Utilize their office hours to get any extra help you may need to improve your grades.

Hi Aleeciah, middle school grades shouldn't have impact to your future job as employer only looks at your grades in university or master. And sometimes employer cares more about your personality instead of grades depending on the industry. Though you don't have to worry too much of middle school grades, but it may impact which university you are able to go. If you know the career you want will look at where you graduated from and your score in university, you should try your best to make it better or it will be harder for you to stand out when HR is doing the first round screening.

What is important is ensuring you have a good GPA in High School for Universities and also getting a good ACT/SAT score to ensure that you are well prepared when applying to Universities.
Regardless it is always important to do your best not because of your grades alone, but because you will be more effective in anything else you do that follows.

Go forward and don't look back at last year's grades. We all make mistakes, but you know now what you need to do to get better grades. Do not let anyone hold you back. When you need help, ask a teacher, friend, parent or any other person you trust. Build your network of people who care about you and can guide you. Grades are a part of life, but so is experience. You can take this experience and turn it into a positive, and show how your hard work has put you on a better path this year. You will succeed. Best of luck to you!

Middle school grades won't matter. Focus on learning as much as you can and doing the best you can. ACT/SAT scores matter for getting into colleges, but there are still lots of great colleges/universities without prohibitively high score requirements.

Middle school grades don't matter. What is important is that you recognize the impact of your grades before high school. Set a goal of where you want to go to college in high school and plan how you want to accomplish that.

Everything counts! What you do in grade school is your foundation of learning and work ethic. Although those grades will not "count" when you apply for college, the work habits you develop, your reading comprehension, your writing skills and your ability to analyze in grade school will help you do better in high school and eventually college and beyond.
The habits you learn about organization and time management in grade school will stay with you for the rest of your life. Best of luck to you and always do your best. Remember don't let anyone else outwork you!

The middle school grade will not affect your future job, no one will ask you to show your middle school score when you apply for a job.
What really matters is what skills and knowledge you get from school and can bring into your college and future jobs.

Your middle school grades will not impact your future. But it seems like you have taken time to consider the impact of your grades and as you move into high school it will become more important. Your grades do not define you but can be used to make it easier for you to get into a college you want to and also get scholarships. Continue to ask for help from teachers and be open to letting them know when you are struggling with a concept or even just having to adjust to online classes. They are much more open to help and accommodate when they can see you are trying and communicating with them. Best of luck!
