Truck‑driver training starts with classroom instruction on safety, road rules, and vehicle systems, followed by hands‑on driving practice in a commercial truck. You learn skills like backing, shifting, coupling trailers, and highway driving. After training, you take the CDL exam (Commercial Driver’s License). Most programs last 4–12 weeks, not years, and once you pass your CDL, you can start working with a company that may provide additional supervised driving experience.

Here are the requirements for Arizona https://azdot.gov/node/4884 to get a commercial drivers license (CDL). Basically you'd need to complete training from one of the certified providers on this site https://tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/ and https://tpr.fmcsa.dot.gov/Search.
https://www.160drivingacademy.com/truck-driving-classes/cdl-classes/ says you can complete the class in 40hrs. Of course how many hours of experience companies will require to be hired will totally depend on them. So just getting a CDL is not guarantee of getting a job. Getting experience can be expensive with diesel @ $4+ a gallon and the avg. 18 wheeler getting only 6-7 miles per gallon.
From what I've been hearing recently, commercial trucking is a very tough business. With diesel prices at record highs many smaller companies are having a hard time making money. Getting into a larger established company will likely require significant experience.
