What would make you as a professional more inclined to give advice on this website? or what are some improvements you would like to see?

A well-formed, clear question makes a huge difference. I see some questions posted here that are so vague I have no idea what they are asking.

Complete sentences, no "text-speak", no slang terms or unexplained acronyms are crucial for me.

And questions like "What is X?" annoy me. Most of the time, questions like that can be answered with a google search, and are a waste of my time. If someone has googled it and doesn't understand, then they should say so..."I tried to figure out what X was, but <this> didn't make sense to me" will get an answer from me almost every time - assuming I know.

And like Kim I. said in her answer, it's obvious when an entire class is told to "post a question". Many will post the exact same question, and I generally ignore duplicates.

Thank you comment icon Manuel, check out this site the state of Texas has created. https://texascareercheck.com/ While it could be more visually appealing, there is a wealth of information there! I think CareerVillage was created to fill a void - by making real professionals available to students, so you could get "the real inside story" about a job. Are you suggesting that they create a database from our responses? Kim Igleheart

I for one am glad to see our educational system becoming more technology inclusive. Students are able to synthesize information from multiple sources and establish a sense of online social presence. While implementing technology into the curriculum shifts the learning environment to being more student-centered, as professionals we can play an integral role in career guidance, offering assistance or helping students take the necessary steps to help them achieve their goals. Overall I believe CareerVillage establishes an integration that promotes engagement and facilitates academic success for students and educational leadership alike. CareerVillage also provides a social media platform to enhance the learning process and to help students meet their learning goals while collaborating with peers and professionals when other resources may not be available.

I love this site because it is so easy to use a few free minutes to answer a question or two! And, that it gives all students access to professionals in every career field.

I don't know how the site is presented to students, so, it's difficult to say. Sometimes, a whole class posts questions in the same day, so we can tell it is being used in the classroom and that apparently it is a classroom assignment to post a question. I'd like to see these questions be a little more thought-out. I think it would lead to more, and better, responses. For example, a common question is "Tell me about a day in the life of a _____."

Perhaps (just thinking. . . .) students should be encouraged to research a profession first, using other resources, or the search function of this site, before approaching professionals with their questions. Some of the questions are repetitious, and, at least speaking for myself, I have started skipping over many of these.

There are still many unique questions being posted, which are enjoyable to answer, as well as to see how others respond to them.

What are your observations, Manuel?
Thank you comment icon Thank you for your response, going through the questions I see a lot of repetition as well. My concern is that these questions may be a deterrent to many professionals who would get bored or agitated. Manuel
Thank you comment icon You are very perceptive! I've been on here for about five years. The number of professionals has grown enough to offset any boredom, I think. Most of us will scroll on down to more suitable questions, but, if there are say, 10-15 in a row, that's about where I log off. This is a great resource, but, like all non-profits, it depends on statistics to keep going, and, sometimes people measure the wrong things (number of questions posted, percentage of questions answered) are easy to measure. Quality of questions and helpfulness of answers are not so easy to measure! Kim Igleheart

Today is my first day on the site but I love the idea behind it. Have kids in high school and college, I can see that there isn't enough time spent preparing them for the "real world". It's a scary time and they feel like they are supposed to know what they want to do for the rest of their lives at the age of 18. So, I'm enjoying trying to help answer their questions.

In terms of the site, it might be nice to be able to filter for questions with multiple filters. If I pick unanswered questions I would want the most recent ones at the top. I am not likely to answer a question from 3 years ago. This could be user error on my part as I haven't been on the site enough. But for my first use, more filtering options so I can quickly see questions where I can provide some help.

And yes, the pressure being put upon our youngsters to know what they like when they've never tried it is insane. We need to give them space to experiment and grow! Kim Igleheart

Hello Manual, thank you for your question. I would say what makes me more inclined to answer the question is the fact that, I feel like most of the young students are disillusion are about the amount of money they think they're worth or what a glamours lifestyle there going to have. I answer because I don't want them to believe that police officers ride around all night and stop at the store or work behind the desk and stay in the building where it's safe, best of luck

I'd be more inclined to give advice if the question relates to something that I have done or have experience with. I don't think there is something that can be improved upon in terms of the question but just make sure to include all necessary details when asking questions. Don't be afraid to add key details.
