How do I decide where I want to go to law school?

Should I be looking at law schools in the state where I want to live and practice law after graduation, or should I only be looking at the schools that have a good program for the kind of law I want to practice? I am torn between the two options, and I was wondering what criteria I should consider most important when looking at law schools.

The best advice you will find is this: go to th college in the area you will be working in. The reason is this: you wouldn't believe how much networking and opportunities open up just by knowing people.

There are several factors to consider when selecting a college....as indicated below. You will need to determine what are your top 3 must haves in the potential school and then base your research on this. Once you have completed your research and narrowed it down to at least 5 schools then submit the applications. A college education can be very rewarding but be careful not to take on too much debt.

School Location
Cost of Tuition
Alumni Network and on campus support network
School Reputation
Degrees offered
Career support services offices
Available Scholarships

There are a lot of factors to consider. You should narrow it down to a few schools that meet both of these criteria, apply, and see where you get in!

Hi! Go to the best (highest ranked) law school you can. It will open doors in the state where you ultimately want to be.

Natalie’s Answer

It depends. If you feel you need the support of family and friends while embarking in law school, then that may help you achieve success. But if you know your area of concentration and know the right schools that support that area of law, sometimes that can lead to bigger doors when you graduate. Good luck!

I recommend creating a Collegeboard account, and completing the College Search. You will be able to enter all of your "must haves" and filter out the colleges/universities that do not match your criteria. Don't concentrate on the "sticker price," as financial aid packages will be available.
