Sonal’s Answer

Hi Craig,

In general, bachelors or undergraduate degree is the first to acquire and can be completed between 3-5 years. The masters or graduate degree is next and typically takes around 2-3 years to complete. The next is doctorate which takes anywhere from 4-6 years to complete. That being said, the timings and path can vary as per the courses and university. Some of the universities also offer combined degree programs.

The other difference is the prime focus of each degree. For example, if someone is pursuing engineering, bachelors degree will give you basic understanding and knowledge needed to pursue that field. Masters degree will help you deepen the understanding of a particular field in that engineering branch (eg. a Mechanical Engineer can do masters in Manufacturing or Design or Materials, etc.) and is generally career focused. Doctorate degree is research focused and will enhance analytical and critical thinking.
