SHAMEKA’s Answer

Great question! Maybe you've heard the term job and even heard the word career. Is there a difference?

Let's see!

Both are places of employment and very much a part of your professional journey! A job can help provide and develop your skills, networks, and work experience. A career is often the result of the skills, networks, and experiences. A career tends to be long term and though important, extends beyond a paycheck! It aligns with your goals, your sense of purpose, and ultimately makes you happy!

P.S. I've had many jobs, but once I graduated college, I FINALLY had a better idea of what I wanted to do and there is when I begin to look for a career.

Matthew’s Answer

A career is a person's chosen occupation or profession, often pursued over a long period of time with the intention of advancing and developing within the field. It involves the pursuit of one's passion, skills, and interests, and often requires specialized education, training, and experience. A career can span across multiple industries, and individuals may work for different companies or organizations throughout their professional journey. A successful career is usually marked by personal and professional growth, achievements, and fulfillment.

Wilson’s Answer

A career is a profession that you want to pursue with a purpose in working/improving towards in a long-term way. It may be adjusted depending on your experience with jobs and coursework.

It can be something like pursuing a career in IT. Usually, people start on working a IT Help Desk or starting their own Computer Repair business. Once you start learning other stuff, you may end up working further towards Cybersecurity or Databases. This is one example of how careers are in a simple progression.

However, depending on where you're going, it can either be similar or complicated. People may pursue their careers differently.

Mary’s Answer

A career is your chosen work. I happen to fall into a human resources job by chance but after a while I decided that I liked it so much it became my career, and I stayed within that profession for 30 years. You can specialize within that career and also work in different industries - such as retail, financial, health using the same skill set. Once you know your set career you can obtain degrees or specialized certifications to make yourself more successful and marketable in that field.
