I'm an accountant now, but I didn't know that's what I wanted to do until my sophomore year. Picking a college seems like a very daunting task, but like Lesly said, it's about trusting yourself. I visited several different schools, and getting a feel for the campus and the environment was really helpful in picking the right school for me. Once I was on campus of the school I ended up picking, I just had a gut feeling that it was the right place for me. It's easy to get caught up in which school is the most prestigious or which school will look better to future employers, but the most important thing is trusting yourself. The school I ended up picking ended up being my only option for financial reasons and I'm so happy that it worked out that way because I had the best experience. In anything in life, you get out of it what you put into it. The more effort you put into making connections and building community, the more you'll get out of it. I wish you luck in your decision, and remember that you know what you need most so trust yourself.

I'm not an accountant, but my recommendation is to find a college that has a high graduate placement rate with minimal expense. Your first job will give you your best aptitude test and provide best job references.

I am not an accountant, but I work at an accounting firm. In fact, I work at a top 20 national accounting firm and can confirm to you that we have accounting partners and professionals from all over the country (all over the world, actually) who have gone to all kinds of colleges and universities.
There are great accounting programs all over, whether at large public universities or small liberal arts colleges. What is truly important is learning the skills to succeed in your career and applying for internships to get some real hands on career experience and an opportunity to meet and work alongside accountants.

Since you want to be an accountant, you want to research which colleges' accounting program rank high. After that, you should see which college offers you the best scholarship. If you can go to college without any student debt then that would be the best option. Some programs may rank higher than others, and it is due to the resources they have available, but rememer in the end what will make you a great accountant is your set of skills.
