Hello Caitlin!

After high school, it takes about 10 years to become a nurse anesthetist. You'll need to get a bachelor's degree, work in a ICU, and get a CRNA program degree.

Here's a website with more information: https://nurse.org/resources/nurse-anesthetist/

Another website to take a look at is this one, which explains more about the GRE & MCAT, and classes you should take in college to prepare for one of the exams: https://hospitalcareers.com/career-paths/how-to-become-an-anesthesiologist-assistant

Nursing may be worth it if you:

- Enjoy science and medicine.
- Like helping others, especially through difficult situations.
- Like interacting with people. You're constantly socializing with patients, doctors, and medical staff.
- Want a career with constant employment opportunities.
- Can see yourself as being able to handle the responsibility of contributing to other's healthcare.

Nurses are paid well, which is another "good" factor for the list. However, it's important to know whether you like the nature of the job and whether you match the qualities from the list.

Helping others and science are fixed aspects of the job. If you like science and helping people, that's a good sign. But if you don't like interacting with people, and hate science, it's likely a bad sign.

Also, determine if it matches your other goals such as lifestyle goals.

Sending you support as you consider pursuing nursing :)
