There are numerous exciting career paths you can follow with this major. Some options include:

- International Development: Contribute to global change by working for an overseas NGO, or join organizations like the UN and World Bank.
- National Security: Help protect your country by working for the government or a government contractor within the Department of Homeland Security or Department of Defense.
- Diplomacy: Make a difference in international relations as a Foreign Service Officer or a civil servant at the State Department.
- Academia: Share your knowledge and expertise by working in a university research center, becoming a professor, or joining the Think Tank World.

In each of these fields, you can also focus on a specific geographic region (e.g., Asia, MENA) or a thematic subject area (e.g., technology, gender), allowing you to tailor your career to your interests and passions.

Annie’s Answer

Hey Claire! I studied international studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After finishing up in 2015, I decided to take the CPA exam and began working as a financial statement auditor in public accounting. It's cool to know that some of my classmates from international studies ended up working for the UN or non-profit organizations!

Samantha’s Answer

Hey Claire! I'm part of a consulting firm where many of my colleagues have degrees in International Affairs. You might want to think about government and public service consulting in particular. I really enjoyed this job after finishing college because I collaborated with groups focused on making a positive impact, the pay and benefits were good, and I had the chance to explore various types of projects to figure out my specific interests. Consulting experience can really boost your resume and help you transition into the next stage of your career if you decide it's not a long-term fit. One of my teammates, who also studied International Affairs, spent four years at our firm before heading off to an amazing grad school in Italy. Their dream is to work for the United Nations (UN) someday!
