Dental assistants are in high demand all over the United States. Another popular job in this field is a dental hygienist, which can earn you between $50 and $60 per hour. If you show dedication and commitment, the dentist may even be willing to pay you more.

Hey Joleena! The US Bureau of Labor Statistics says that dental assistant jobs are expected to increase by 8% between 2021 and 2031, which is quicker than most other jobs. Here's the link: https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/dental-assistants.htm

Besides dentist offices, outpatient care centers are another big place where dental hygienists can work, even though they're not as common.

If you're thinking about this career, don't worry about finding a job as long as you have the right education. Best of luck!

I will tell you I have never had an issue finding a dental assistant position and I worked in three different states. It can be more about the dental office politics then the dental assistant position. What kind of dental practice are you looking for is it more of a corporate office, private practice, state insurance based, and PPO insurance? They all have a different atmosphere. It may be fast paced with several columns of patients or only four patients for long procedures, and one patient every thirty to forty-five minutes. What is your pace? What do you feel comfortable doing? Finding the right fit is key. You can always build on working as a temp for an agency to build your resume experience.
How are you in your people skills, stress levels, and conflict resolution abilities? These will be important in order to find a stable and sustaining position. You may find competition and you may have to find what it is in you that stands out from the other applicants. It could be as simple as your temporaries are the most realistic and last the patient the longest in treatment. It could be your kind gentle and empathetic to the patient's energy or concerns. This takes time to learn and discover but you will have your own system and ways of doing things.
We will always have a need for assistants as long as there is a dentist and a dental office. The question is what you can offer as an applicant that makes you more qualified than others which could include something like a sweet and bubbly personality!!
