Patrecia (Trish)’s Answer

Starting out as an assistant is a great stepping stone, and earning a certificate doesn't take too long. As an assistant, you have the opportunity to earn a certificate from a 2-year college in less than 3 months. There are numerous programs available for you to explore, and the duration depends on how quickly you complete the course work. If you dream of becoming a veterinarian, it will require more time (at least 8 years 4 years undergraduate & 4 years graduate) and effort, but remember, every big journey begins with small steps.

Hi Sorangelys,

To become a veterinarian, you'll need about 8 years of education after high school. First, complete a 4-year undergraduate degree, focusing on science courses like biology and chemistry. Then, attend veterinary school for 4 more years to earn your Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. If you want to specialize, you might do internships or residencies, adding 2 to 5 more years. So, while it usually takes 8 years, it could be longer if you choose to specialize.
