Cindy’s Answer

There are different levels of advanced classes. Some are local classes that are a little more difficult than the typical class. Some advanced classes are classes you take a year earlier than your peers. For instance some people take 9th grade classes as 8th graders. There are college level classes that are taught by high school teachers. There are also AP classes which are more difficult. It really depends on what your district offers. Some schools allow you to take classes at your local community college but are often reserved for your senior year. Colleges look at your program of study and want to make sure you are challenging yourself so I don't recommend you take the "easy" classes. However you don't want to over-reach either because obviously your grades are important. Unless you're accelerated in a certain subject, most advanced classes are not offered until 10th grade. Again, it depends on your district. Only take advanced classes in areas you're strong in and that can be any year. Most often you will be recommended for these classes.

Nicolas’s Answer

If you're looking for an advanced course that is semi easy you most likely won't find one. I believe that instead of trying to get into an expensive school, you should show you're capable in high school at the level you're at, and then enroll in community college to prove your academics for cheaper. You can use community college classes to get into a good school because they consider degrees. Admissions counselors can see that an advanced course is easy, but if you put your mind to it, you can focus first on getting the regular scheduled classes graded as an A. If you can do this first only then put your efforts towards more advanced courses.

Nicolas recommends the following next steps:

Get As in regular classes first
Wait for a recommendations
Take them only if your gpa is higher than 3.5
Take community college courses your junior & senior years instead
