Hi Marvin,

I am glad that you are considering a career in Architecture! I did not study architecture in US but I can definitely tell you it is one of the most exciting fields to study and practice. Architects can be creative, technical, innovative to name a few. It's a combination of creative thinking, a taste for design, and technical skills.

The only things to consider is it's a long haul, it takes time to get experience, and often you have to work a lot harder compared to other techies/engineers/financial analysts, hedge fund managers etc. and pay can be lower compared to these professions.

Deborah’s Answer

I've studied architecture and planning in Italy. It is a very challenging and rewarding profession.
I should start saying that architects wear many hats. They are designers, planners, coordinators, managers...Can interpret clients ideas, analyze existing conditions, develop designs, integrate building systems, architects create architectural & construction details, select finishes, and make things happen!
This profession has constant interaction with code officials, engineers, contractors, vendors, specialists...
Architects have a large skill set that makes them capable of doing many things. They are creative thinkers who see not only the big picture but also all the little details. A lot of things need to be coordinated from initial design sketch to the final finished project, and that's the big effort and big reward at the end.
All the best in your future career!
