Hi Hans,
I think the two prior answers are spot on. It definitely covers the business aspects. As well as addressing the importance of knowing how to do carpentry yourself.
I have worked for company owners in the past, that were not extremely experienced in carpentry. However because they had a lot of startup capital, and hired the best carpenters, they were successful. They were great business men.
I started my carpentry business a little different. I worked for other companies to gain experience in carpentry. I grew my tool collection over time and started doing side jobs, when I had free time. Eventually before I would finish a side job, a neighbor or friend of my customer, would need work done. This perpetuated the start of my business.
If you are good at what you do ; fair about what you charge; and show up when you say, word will spread.! If you don’t do these things, word will spread faster!

In Australia, it's really cool that you can start your learning journey at TAFE by taking a course. From there, you can hop onto an apprenticeship and gain hands-on experience. Once you've got the skills, you can even kickstart your own business. That's what I learnt from others and hope it is helpful

The best way I know is contacting the secretary of state and they will assist you in creating your business by providing forms for you to complete. You can call the secretary of state and they will give you a step by step process. In order for you to start your own business you will need a business name; this is something you should put thought into.
