Nicole’s Answer

In my free time, I'm always happy to lend a hand as a social worker, ready to assist anyone who needs it. There's such a deep sense of fulfillment in aiding others. It's like giving a bouquet of roses and receiving the sweet scent on your own hands in return.

Shamila’s Answer

Working in the human services/social work field is very rewarding. My interest in this world came from a place of personal exposure. Watching my grandparents grow older with health issues, I was grateful and humbled watching the difference made in their lives when staff came in to help. A nurse, a social worker, a case manager, anyone in this world who visited left an impression and allowed my grandparents to stay at home for as long as they did. Connected with people is a great joy for me, hence my interest in the human services world.

Ginger’s Answer

I started my career as a community organizer and advocate. Social work was a very natural next step. And unlike the majority of social workers, I always had what's called a "macro" focus, meaning rather than working directly with clients I have always had a passion for developing programs, managing non-profits (including financial management and business planning), and public policy - so things that impact large groups of people. But I think I really decided when I was in my late teens, and a non-profit I loved dearly was poorly managed during the 2008 recession and temporarily closed. I promised myself that no organization I ever worked with would ever fail the community like that.
