Hello Autumn,

Anesthesiologists earn a substantial income to offset the costs of their in-depth education and professional expenses, like insurance. On average, an anesthesiologist's salary is around $331,937. Those at the top of their field can earn as much as $663,000, while those just starting out might earn around $113,000. Wishing you all the best on your journey!

James Constantine’s Answer

Hey there, Autumn!

If you're thinking about a career as an Anesthetist, you're probably curious about how much you could earn. Well, it's not a straightforward answer as it depends on a few things like where you work, your experience, and the kind of place you're employed at.

Anesthetists are super important in the medical world. They're the ones who make sure patients are comfortable and safe when they're having surgery or other treatments by giving them anesthesia. It's a specialized job, so they're usually paid quite well for what they do.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the middle range of what nurse anesthetists (a type of Anesthetist) were earning in May 2020 was $189,190 a year. But remember, this is just the middle point - half of them earned more than that, and half earned less.

The starting pay for an Anesthetist can be different based on a few things. Where you work is a big one. If you're in an area where the cost of living is high or where there's a big need for healthcare professionals, you might earn more. Places like big cities or areas that don't have a lot of healthcare services might pay more to get good Anesthetists.

Experience also plays a part in how much you can earn. Like most jobs, the more experience you have, the more you're likely to get paid. If you're just starting out after graduation, you might start on a lower salary than someone who's been working in the field for a while.

Where you work can also affect your starting pay. Anesthetists can work in all sorts of places like hospitals, surgery centers, outpatient clinics, and universities. The size and reputation of the place can make a difference to your salary. For example, a big, well-known hospital might pay more than a small clinic.

So, to sum up, how much you can earn when you start out as an Anesthetist can change based on things like where you work, how much experience you have, and the kind of place you work at. Even though the middle range of what nurse anesthetists were earning in May 2020 was $189,190, what you start on could be lower or higher depending on these things.

Here are the top 3 places I got my info from:
1. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) - www.bls.gov
2. American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) - www.aana.com
3. American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) - www.asahq.org

Crystal M.’s Answer

Hello, an anesthesiologists is a doctor of anesthesiology. An anesthetist is a CRNA, certified registered nurse anesthetist. They are the highest paid nurse generally. If you like to travel, you are in luck because I've seen travel (locum) contracts where they are paid $350 an hour and get one week vacation off per month. They are responsible for taking alot of call during their work weeks including all hours of the night, because of emergencies.
