Why do you want to work in Security?
I would like to know everybody's opinion when working in homeland security or as security guards.

Many security guards already have a background in that area, either from the military or law enforcement. There are training classed you can take to become a security guard. You could also pursue first a Criminal Justice degree and aspire to get to a higher level in that area. Homeland Security or even TSA (the airport security) I have a friend there. The important thing is to be great at your job, show initiative. People that can be depended on to follow policy and do good work rise quickly in these organizations. I would keep an open mind as you research this area. It could lead you to other opportunities.

Having spent three decades in law enforcement, I found my transition to security work to be quite seamless. The skills I acquired over the years proved to be highly transferable. My law enforcement journey also provided me with numerous opportunities to work alongside Homeland Security personnel. Today, I am the Director of Security at a prominent hotel corporation.
If you decide to venture into either law enforcement or security, know that your potential is only limited by your own passion and ambition. Generally speaking, the prerequisites for a career in security are not overly demanding. Often, all it takes is a high school diploma or equivalent, a clean background check, and the necessary certifications which can vary from state to state. Quite frequently, your employer will assist you in acquiring these certifications.
As for Homeland Security, the requirements can differ based on the specific position you're aiming for. Entry-level positions typically require a high school diploma or equivalent at a minimum. However, being a government role, there will likely be competitive testing, an interview, and a more thorough background check before you're considered for the role.
In both fields, your career progression is largely in your hands. A college degree, additional training, or certifications can certainly give you an edge. In the either sector, your progression depends on your performance and your ability to excel. In the government sector, competition is stiffer, and there might be additional testing and more rigorous background checks required beyond that.
