Maria’s Answer

Online learning in college can absolutely be a success story for many students, and for a variety of reasons! Here are some of the biggest benefits I had with online learning:

1. Online courses offer a much more flexible schedule than. I can learn at my own pace, fitting coursework around my work, friends, family, or other commitments. Lectures and materials are often available 24/7, allowing me to revisit them as needed.

2. For working adults, like me, or those with families, online learning provides a valuable opportunity to pursue higher education without putting my life on hold.

I've done online mostly after my bachelor's degree and I love it.

Hello Mila!

Having been both a student and a teacher in the realm of online learning for a significant amount of time, I've gathered some valuable insights that I'd love to share with you.

1. It's crucial to allocate sufficient time each week to complete your assignments and study. Avoid the temptation to postpone tasks simply because the class is online. Procrastination can lead to missed deadlines, so it's best to stay on top of your work.

2. Implement the Pomodoro technique to structure your study sessions. Dedicate yourself fully to studying for around 25 minutes, then reward yourself with a brief 5 to 10-minute break doing something you enjoy, like browsing your phone, taking a stroll, or grabbing a quick snack. This not only helps your brain process and store the information more effectively but also provides a little dopamine boost as a reward!

3. If possible, find a study partner online. This way, you can motivate each other to stay focused and complete assignments in a timely manner.

4. Don't be discouraged if the material seems too challenging. Most campuses offer tutoring services that can provide assistance with your course content.

Remember, you've got this! Best of luck with your online classes!

Andrew’s Answer

When I was a student half a century ago, there were no online classes. Therefore, I cannot relate any success story as an online student.

However, in the past two decades, I have been teaching online mathematics and statistics primarily. I have many successful students in my classes.

Because of the availability of a wealth of online resources such as lecture videos and web links, face-to-face lectures can be relegated to the dust bin of history. However, the flexibility of online classes can be a fatal trap for students who lack discipline, motivation, effective time management, and self-advocacy.

The bottom line is that it takes hard work to be a successful student, no matter it is online or face-to-face.

Elizabeth (Betsy)’s Answer

Hello Mila,

Not only do I design online learning courses, but I've also been a beneficiary of them for a considerable period. I've successfully completed numerous online courses, including a professional certification program in Talent Development.

Online learning is a boon to me as a working parent juggling a demanding job and family responsibilities. The convenience of undertaking courses from the comfort of my home, without the hassle of commuting to a physical institution, is invaluable. Furthermore, the flexibility offered by many online courses allows me to progress at my own pace. If I find a topic challenging, I can revisit it multiple times; conversely, if I excel at a topic, I can expedite my progress. In most cases, I've found assistance readily available through online forums and messaging tools. While responses from instructors may sometimes be delayed, my classmates or community group often provide useful advice.

However, succeeding in online learning requires comfort in self-managing one's education and establishing a consistent schedule. This aspect can be challenging for some, who might find a traditional classroom setting more conducive to their learning style.
