Will going to a community college before university help someone from a rural community adjust to city life.

I live in a very rural community with a population of 420 people. My highschool only has 12 people and I think going to a smaller community college will help me become accustomed to being around thousands of people.

Hi Daisy! I too lived in a small rural community and I attended a small community college and found it an Excellent way to start my College life! I also discovered that attending a community college cost Way less than a University. Also, attending a community college allowed me to complete my “basic”coursework paying less money and then transferring those college hours to a University. I therefore earned my Associates degree in a community college and then my Bachelors degree in a University! Lastly, I earned my Masters degree from a University as well! So , YES attending a small rural college is an Excellent way to begin your higher learning! I definitely recommend this!

It really depends on you. Have you ever been to the city? If so how large a city? Did you feel overwhelmed? Lost? Or did you find it exilerating? My suggestion would be to go look at schools you are interested in before applying. Get a feel of the area first. Both community college and big city colleges are going to give you culture shock. You won't know how you will be effected until you've been there. You might surprise yourself. I've known small town people who have taken to NYC right off and small city people who just couldn't handle the big city. Either way you should always check out the place before you commit.

I hope this helps you Daisy.
