What are the chances of mine getting into any IIM for an MBA?

Hi everyone,
I don’t have an extraordinary profile and my 10th and 12th marks are 76% and 60% respectively. I am in third year of college and my cgpa till 2nd year is 6.185.
What score should I target in CAT to get calls from any IIM?

Hi Oshin - for IIM entrance, you definitely need to aim very high in your CAT exam, at least a top 5% score. There are several preparatory courses available to prepare for the exam - please do take on one of these courses as they offer a lot of lessons in Maths and English, and several practice exams. A key factor for success is the ability to answer a lot of questions in the limited time, so you need to look at mental math abilities (the ability to calculate without needing a calculator), you also need to learn test taking tips such as not spending too much time on one question, scanning through the questions and answering the easier ones first and coming back for the others, so that you can maximise your score. The IIM entrance also involves an interview and group discussion, so please prepare for that, but you will have time for that after CAT.

So, getting into an IIM for an MBA is definitely tough, but it’s not out of reach. Here’s the deal:
1. CAT Score: This is your golden ticket. Aim for a really high percentile. For the top IIMs like Ahmedabad, Bangalore, and Calcutta, you should target above 98-99%. For the newer ones, a 90-95% might do the trick. Since your 10th and 12th marks are okay but not outstanding, a stellar CAT score will really help.
2. Academic Performance: Your school marks are decent, but your college CGPA is on the lower side. Don’t stress too much, though. IIMs look at more than just grades. If you have work experience, extracurriculars, or anything else that shows off your skills and interests, it’ll help balance things out.
3. Overall Profile: Make sure to highlight any internships, projects, or activities that make you stand out. IIMs appreciate a well-rounded applicant, so anything unique or impressive about your background will work in your favor.
In short, focus on nailing the CAT and building up the other parts of your application. It’s competitive, but with some hard work and a bit of luck, you’ve got a shot. Good luck!
