Hi Tyre,

You have a great answer already, and there are a few things I want to add.
1) I would always prioritize in-person education over virtual/online. You will build a better network and a stronger understanding of the content by interacting with the professors and classmates in-person.
2) Look at certification programs at universities and colleges. Many states have certifications and licensing courses for careers in banking, like being a loan officer.
3) If you plan to take classes or get your associates degree or bachelors degree, focus on business and finance classes. You also should always take communications and public speaking classes. Those skills are always important in every career and just require a lot of practice and feedback.

Good luck!

Hello, Tyre. Great question!
I will answer your question based on how to become a mortgage loan officer, hoping that is what you are looking for. I happen to train people who are looking to earn their mortgage loan officer license.
Typically, graduating from high school is preferred to be a loan officer, though not always required. A college degree is not required. Most often, what you will need to do to become a mortgage loan officer is get hired by a mortgage company or brokerage that will sponsor you as you pursue your license. At a minimum, you must take a federally required 20-hour pre-licensing education class and pass a test to earn credit for the class. Then you will need to pass the federally required mortgage loan officer test, which is very challenging. Some lenders will provide additional training to help you pass this test. Once you pass the federal test, then you can apply for state licenses so you can write loans in specific states.
Not a ton of education like college is required, but you will have to learn about the laws, rules and regulations, as well as the programs and products offered in the mortgage industry so that you are well prepared to help people as the look to get a mortgage.
