How can I improve my vocabulary and writing?

I am a junior doing IB so I'm expected to be at the very least decent with my writing, which I am. But I sometimes feel a little overwhelmed when I look at my peers and see how easy it is for them to express their ideas so clearly. I do gotta say that I am introverted, which could maybe have effect? However, I speak when I know I have to. Anytime I have to write an essay spontaneously, I notice that my brain kind off goes blank and I resort to using somewhat basic language to express my point. I enjoy reading so I am more than open to look at books for help with expanding my vocabulary and learning how to write better.
