Some of the basics to qualify for the academy are below. Other recommendations would be to join an ROTC program with your school to get military training as well.
To be academically competitive for an appointment to the Air Force Academy, you need to have the following skills and education:
1. Completion of high school courses including English, math, science, and social studies.
2. Strong background in geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and precalculus.
3. Lab-based science courses including biology, chemistry, and physics.
4. Completion of a modern foreign language and computer study.
In addition, cadets at the Air Force Academy focus on developing fundamental skills in aircraft control, navigation, and communication with air traffic control. Check out these resources for additional assistance.

While joining the Air Force academy is a great goal, the school is highly selective. Applying is similar to apply to any other college however there are some special indicators they'd look at that other schools won't.
Do you have anyone in your family that is an alumni?
Do you have any family members that received a purple heart?
Do you have any letters of recommendation from military leadership?
If your plan is to serve in the Air Force and get a jumpstart on your career, look at ROTC programs at your local college. It will meet the same requirements and you would go straight into AFSC (job) training once you graduate.
If funding school is an issue, you could always join the Air National Guard or Air Force Reserve to get tuition assistance and the GI Bill. It would also give you experience as Enlisted and better prepare you to lead in the future.
