Z it sounds like you've not even started college, so changing majors from Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM) to Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM) should be very simple. Colleges ask you to declare a major on your application to understand your academic interests, helping them balance a program enrollment across different fields, and assess your level of preparedness for a specific area of study, allowing them to potentially tailor your admissions decision based on your chosen major, especially for competitive programs; while you can often change your major later, indicating an initial focus demonstrates you've considered your future academic path.

You are in good company with other students who are struggling to pinpoint a major fresh out of high school or in their first year of college. Feeling uncertain about your course of study and future career options is not only a common occurrence but one that is understandable because there are so many learning and career choices available to you. An advisors can help you create a new plan and can easily walk you through the process and keep you from skipping out on courses you do not need. In the majority of US schools and universities, you have the option to change your major during your first year of study. This is a great opportunity for you to try out different courses and find the field that suits you, as your first year is typically spent exploring various subjects through general education courses and becoming familiar with campus life. Some universities also allow you to switch majors during your second year.

Hope this was helpful Z

Hi Z!

Yes, it's absolutely okay for upcoming college students to shift from one course to another, like "Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management (BSHM)" to "Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM)", or vice versa. College is a time for exploration and discovering what you're truly passionate about.

If you initially put "Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management (BSTM)" as your first choice and "Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science (BSES)" as your second choice, but now feel more drawn to "BSHM", that's perfectly fine! It's important to choose a path that aligns with your interests, goals, and the career you envision for yourself.

Just make sure to speak with your school’s guidance office or academic advisor—they can help you navigate the process and ensure the transition is smooth. Remember, it's your education, and pursuing what excites and motivates you is always the right decision.

Best wishes!

Hey Z,

Yes It's okay to change your major in college. A part of college is learning and figuring out what you are interested in and want out of life. College for many is the first time where they are exposed to the various paths they can take with their studies and career because it's not as linear as high school was. I went in undeclared for that reason I wanted to learn more about what exactly was out there before making a decision.

Hey Z!

Yes, it’s definitely okay to switch between courses like BSHM to BSTM in college, especially if you realize that your interests are shifting or you’ve found a new passion. College is all about figuring out what excites you and where you want to go with your studies.

Changing your major is super common and many students do it in their first year—some even in their second year! You can reach out to your school’s academic advisor to help make the transition smooth, and they can guide you on how to plan for the switch, especially regarding course requirements.

It’s great that you’re exploring your options now. Trust your instincts, and pick the path that feels right for you! 😊 Good luck with everything!
