Hello Antoine,

It's awesome that you have an idea of the company that you wish to work for to start your career. Air Canada like most large corporations have a need for skilled people in a variety areas. The specific educational and skills required will depend on the job function. One way of finding out the requirements for particular jobs is to go to the official website for Air Canada and look for the careers link which is at the bottom of the page. You can check the jobs listings which will show the requirements for specific jobs.

Don't feel overwhelmed by what you see. You have plenty of time to prepare for your career choice. There is plenty of available information on Air Canada and other airline companies on the Internet. If you googled one question about careers in the airline industry each week you would have accumulated a wealth of knowledge over the course of a year. The more you know about a company the better your chances are of getting hired.

Good fortune on your career pursuit!

Antoine, you’re already dreaming big—Air Canada, here you come! 🌍✈️

So, to fly with Air Canada (or work for them), you don’t need to worry about diplomas just yet since you’re in 6th grade! 😎 But here’s what you can do in the future:

1. Pilot – You’d need to become a licensed pilot. After high school, you'd get a degree in aviation, then learn to fly all sorts of aircraft. Think of it as a “sky graduation”! 🎓✈️

2. Flight Attendant – A high school diploma or equivalent is usually needed, and then you’d get special training to keep passengers happy and safe. Plus, you get to be the person who brings snacks. 🍪

3. Airport Jobs – For other roles like customer service or management, a college degree might be helpful. But really, it’s all about having a passion for travel, great communication skills, and, of course, the ability to handle airport coffee. ☕✈️

So, keep doing awesome in 6th grade and maybe start practicing your “Hello, welcome aboard!” lines! Who knows, you might be flying high in no time! Keep dreaming big!

Oh and for the diploma for when you are ready hee is what I can say you will need depending on the job at Air Canada:

1. Pilot: You will need to get a Bachelor's degree in aviation, or a related field, and then complete flight school to earn a commercial pilot's license. It’s a lot of studying, but the sky’s the limit once you are trained!

2. Flight Attendant: A high school diploma is the minimum requirement. However, some positions may prefer a college diploma in hospitality or tourism, and then you will need to complete Air Canada’s flight attendant training program.

3. Airport Staff (e.g., customer service, baggage handler): For most entry-level jobs, a high school diploma might be enough. For managerial roles, a college diploma in business, hospitality, or management would be helpful.

No matter what, Antoine aim to have strong communication skills, a love for travel, and the enthusiasm to fly high—whether on the ground or in the air!

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Antoine !

It's really great that you came here for information about a career at an airline ! At 11 years old, I am impressed with your initiative !

There are many positions that you can have if you want to work for an airline. Some of these careers are: Pilot, Flight Attendant, Ground Support Equipment Technician, Ramp Agent, Customer Sales and Service Agent, Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, Station Attendant, Administrative and Technical Positions like IT and other positions, Cabin Maintenance, and Facilities Maintenance Industrial Mechanic.

Your first step in exploring the education would be to pick some positions you are thinking about and then explore the education required for your careers of choice. You do not get a degree or diploma for a company, you obtain it for a position if it is required, so you'd have to ask about specific jobs at an airline. Air Canada has a website (link is below). They also offer Internships and Scholarship opportunities to older students so it will be good to explore this for when you are closer to the time to obtain those. I left the link about it below.

If you choose a position that doesn't require a college degree, you would be trained by whichever airline you work at. So now might be a good time to decide which jobs you have in mind and explore them further.

I hope this is helpful for a start and I wish you well !
