Where do I start?

I'm in tenth grade and I am already feeling the pressure of applying to colleges. I know that I will definitely need to apply for #scholarships, and I have started looking into colleges that I'm interested in, but I have no clue where to begin.

Thank you comment icon Kassadie try going to college tours or look up your college to see the requirements and Kassadie don't worry everyone worries about college there 10th grade year because you are at the milestone of graduating just keep your head up and you will be fine(: Cameron

Hi Kassadie,

There are some great online resources to help you find scholarships you might qualify for. Check out fastweb.com and scholarships.com, as they are popular options. Have you thought about what you might want to study? Choosing a career path can guide you in selecting the right college rather than picking a college first and then deciding on a career.

This might feel like a lot, but here's some good news. First, you're already ahead of the game, and you have time to consider what you're good at and what you might enjoy as a career. Second, you're not locked into one choice. You can change your major, switch colleges, or even change careers after you graduate. Just focus on getting the most out of your education, keeping your grades up, and making the best choices with the information you have.

Hi Kassadie,

It's great you are looking ahead so early on. A great resource here will be your school guidance counselor. Let them do just that, guide you. Create a list of schools you are interested in based on what you anticipate a future Major may be to determine what school best suits your needs. Then, your counselor should be able to assist you in weighing your options of scholarships and/or financial aid. Another alternative is calling the university's financial aid office and ask what is offered. I attended the University of Alabama and had no clue what scholarships were offered. I called the financial aid office and they sent me an entire list that I sought after. In the meantime, keep your grades up as high as you can to make it easier for you to obtain one of these scholarships. Also, get involved with clubs or volunteering if you haven't already as that always plays a big time part in achieving scholarships.

Thanks!

Mike
