Hi Bri, what an ambitious and helpful idea to open a daycare like that. I work for an accredited preschool and I'd recommend that you look into secondary education (AA, BA or CDA) in teaching or child development. You might even consider teaching/working for another daycare or preschool so you can gain valuable experience in the classroom. Between the experience you will gain and the continuing education, it will give parents confidence having their child at your childcare center. There are many things that go in to running a successful childcare business. Additionally, you'll want to look at the regulations and requirements to operate a licensed childcare business, which you will certainly want to be. That way you'll be able to have the appropriate insurance and safety standards met to ensure that the children are in a safe caring environment.

Betsy recommends the following next steps:

Continue education in a related childcare or teaching field
Gain experience in the classroom or other childcare center
Research necessary regulations and requirements to open and operate a licensed childcare center

Hi Bri,

I would encourage you to continue to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education because you will need to know the background information of how children learn and how their development should blossom over time. From there, I would actually get some experience working in the field for a few years so that you know how classrooms function properly and how to best advise the teachers under your leadership.
I would then look into getting either another degree in Educational Administration/Leadership and/or a director's credential.
