Hello Aaron, amazing option, i can tell you that as part of my career , i´ve been in trainings as firefighter, if you care about people, i would highly recommend you, work in the Environmental, Health and Safety field, you can start reading and learning from local norms and regulations, engineering controls for machinery and safety devices, the impact that you get in you when you remove a risk condition from an employee is great, root cause analysis methodology to investigate an incident, or even how a fire started. EHS includes all. Hope you can achieve that dream, we are here in this world to take care of each other.

Hi Aaron,
Firefighting is a diverse career with many different certifications that you can earn.
If you want to become a professional firefighter, you first need to graduate from high-school or get your GED. Aim to stay in good shape because firefighting is also a physically demanding career.
You can already get your EMT certification while you are in high-school (in some places it's a requirement).
Look for entry level positions as fire cadet, firefighting recruit, firefighter trainee or similar. It is also a good idea to visit your local fire department, ask about possible positions, their hiring processes and requirements and get your name on a list of potential recruits.
The fire department that hires you will let you know what training you need to get. Some might be done locally, some can be done online, for others you need to attend a fire academy. As you move along, there are lots of extra certifications for special skills that keep things interesting or allow you to specialize.
I have left some links to more information for you below.
I hope this helps for now! All the best to you!
