I would say knowing what to expect will really help you. You can take this free, short course (less than 1 hour) on HP LIFE to learn resume writing and interview skills- https://www.life-global.org/course/362-resume-writing-and-job-interviewing
At the end of course, you will receive a free certificate that you can post on your LinkedIn page.
Good luck!

Deborah’s Answer

Hi Krista, super great question! I have recently interviewed several people at my company and my best advice is to work on your "Soft" skills...I have learned that candidates can usually learn any job, but how they relate to me and my team is as important or more important than their business skills. Soft skills are communication, listening, ease at discussing themselves and their life/hobbies in general are super important. I always hire people that will mesh well with the team rather than the most talented from a skills perspective and if you have both...you're hired!

Ann’s Answer

This is a great question. I think sometimes people come to an interview without doing any preparation at all.

First make sure you dress appropriately. If you are in doubt, it is always better to be over dressed than under dressed. If the interview is over Zoom, be sure to look at your background. A messy background or a background with questionable items may be a red flag to an employer. It is also always better to be early to the interview than right on time or late.

If you can, try to talk to someone who works for the employer before your interview. That person will be able to tell you about what is important to that particular company. If you do not know someone who works for the company, it is good to research the company. Find out the company's mission statement which should be fairly easy to find on the corporate website. These mission statements will tell you what is important to that company. Look at your skills and be sure to emphasize what skills you have that match with the mission of the employer.

Finally, be sure to smile and use please and thank yous. Interviewers are looking for people that they want to work with. Politeness goes a long way.

I wish you much luck in your job search.

Communication skills. Most jobs will require on the job training so it’s not the technical details. I focus on whether the candidate is enthusiastic about the role, and whether they can confidently answer questions about what they know and more importantly effectively ask questions about what they don’t know.

Believe in yourself and get ready with a calm and natural approach. Stay involved and feel free to ask meaningful questions. When you answer questions, try to tell a story that highlights your skills. You can use the STAR method: explain the Situation, describe the Task, share the Action you took, and reveal the Result.

Donnett’s Answer

To stand out in an interview, let your personality shine. Be confident and share your experience and knowledge about the job you're applying for. It's perfectly fine to bring a notebook with questions about the role. Remember, most interviewers want to see how well you'll fit into the team.

Javier’s Answer

Hi Kristi,

Getting ready for a job interview is super important, and you've got this! Start by really understanding what the job involves, what the company expects, and what they value. Picture yourself doing the tasks and think of examples from your life that show your skills. These examples can come from work, sports, or hobbies, and can highlight your creativity, leadership, or teamwork.

Make sure to arrive early and have a simple but strong introduction ready about yourself. During the interview, it's important to connect with the interviewer. Remember, it's also a chance for you to see if you like the role and the company.

Keep a positive attitude, and it will make a big difference.

Good luck!

Citi’s Answer

I'll try to find someone who is personable and willing to work with people. I want the person to be respectful and understand empathy. With a lot of automation happening, it is also important to be able to cross train and raise overall talent at the same time (leave no one behind mentality is crucial).
