if you are renting a booth in a salon, how much is the bill?
would it be better to do hair out of your house or start your own salon rather than renting a booth, if not, why?

Hi, Ava !
This would be something that you would need to call the salons in your area to see how much renting a chair would be. It is quite expensive, however. Do contact Hair Salon Chair Rent Jobs and Salon Space For Rent in Ohio. It could cost between $50.00 to $100.00 dollars a day to rent a chair in an already established salon. That doesn't seem practical. Not every salon in your town rents a chair to hair stylists.
Your best bet would be to start out as an employee of an already established salon once you are Licensed to cut and style hair.
When you have enough experience, the home salon is great ! I've known two people that have done this. Renting a salon is very expensive so your own in-house salon is a good idea. The ones I've seen are usually in a finished basement and furnished very nicely. With this, your water and electric bill may be higher. The house I lived in from age 10 to 17 had a home salon at one time as there was a salon sink and a bathroom on the main floor. Your first step for this would be to research the building codes of your town which you can be referred to by your local Town Hall. You will need to furnish it with the salon sink - you know, the one with the curve in the front for the customers' neck and have a bathroom with at least a toilet and maybe a small sink. Check what is needed by contacting the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology. You can do this once you have the funds to furnish the space.
Another idea is to do Home Visit service. I knew someone who did this and she just charged the customers what she would charge if she had a salon. This is ideal for suburban and rural areas and even in big cities, too. You go to the customers' home and do their hair. Many times, you'd be using their kitchen sink to wash or rinse their hair. People love this type of service, makes them feel pampered and a great social time one on one. Word of mouth gets out and you suddenly have more customers ! There's no expense except for gas and whatever products you use. Sometimes the customer will have their own products that they want you to use. Once you have your License, remember to have business cards made.
If it was me, once I had the License, I'd get a job at an already established salon. At the same time, I would do home visit service. This will be a great way to save up the money for a future home salon. Check the regulations on this, but I believe that it is legal for you to cut people's hair in your own home once you hold your Cosmetology License. A good resource for this would be the staff at the Cosmetology School that you attend.
I hope this is helpful and I wish you all the best in this wonderful career !

Hello! Every booth rental is unique, depending on what the salon provides, like products, insurance, or a receptionist. Remember, in many states, you can't legally work from home without it being a licensed business. Working in an unlicensed place might lead to fines. But don't worry! Starting by renting a booth or working on commission is a fantastic way to begin your journey. You can also do some home visits to grow your client base while you plan your dream home salon. Keep going—you're on the right path!
