How do I find undergraduate-level internships in the psychology field Particularly in forensics.?

I am a sophomore psychology major, minoring in forensic health. My dream career is to become a criminal psychologist. I’m drawn to the idea of evaluating the mental state of criminals. I’m currently trying to find research opportunities and internships within the psychology field to start gaining experience somewhere. I’m having trouble finding these opportunities. Many cater to grad students and those who already have a few years of internship experience under their belt. What should I do?

Hey Daniella! You're already ahead by knowing your passion early, many don’t find that clarity until much later. While some roles target grad students, there are still plenty of entry points: look for faculty-led research labs, volunteer with local mental health clinics, or apply to summer programs like REUs (Research Experiences for Undergraduates). Reach out directly to professors working in forensic or clinical psychology, they often welcome motivated undergrads to assist with research. Even related experience in correctional facilities, crisis centers, or legal aid organizations can strengthen your foundation. Stay proactive and persistent and your dedication will open the right doors. Good luck!
