What would be the best steps/goals to have in order to find my way into the roller coaster industry designing roller coasters?
I have found myself becoming very passionate about roller coasters and their design. I've tons of my own research on them and have started trying to learn No Limits 2. I'm just curious what other things would be helpful to achieve my goal of becoming a coaster designer.

Hi there! I also was very interested in this career path when I was early on in my career in college. I would suggest finding a job application for a role in this specific field and try to dissect each qualification they are looking for.

Looks like the focus is on a lot of SolidWorks/3D modeling which is easy to do on your own time to get certifications to show you know the software, and to produce models as examples to add to your LinkedIn or portfolio.

Hi Jonah,
I admire your fascination with roller coasters. Their design, engineering, construction & operations however involve a multiplicity of professions. Professionals involved include: artists, architects, structural engineers, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers & safety experts.
Mechanical engineers are responsible for the dynamics, structural engineers for the static structural aspects, electrical engineers for the power systems and control experts handle safety.
Layout design requires artists, mechanical engineers and architects. Safety is always the first consideration in any engineering design.
To get involved in rollercoaster design, you have a number of professional options to choose from. My advice is that you should go for what excites you the most.
To be able to persue any engineering course, you need to do a number of foundational subjects in high school: maths, physics, chemistry, computer applications, design & graphics.
Rollercoaster engineers need critical skills for success:
1) Blueprinting skills
2) Mechanical design proficiency
3) Strong proficiency in physics and mathematics
4) Interpersonal skills
5) Teamwork and leadership skills
Other important traits include integrity, accountability, patience & perseverance
Some of the companies in the industry that might be of interest to you include Intamin Amusement Rides, Skyline Attractions LLC, Rock Mountain Construction

Jonah,
I've one simple answer for you to begin your research.
Go to LinkedIn and type this into the search field: "roller coasters"
I just did this and found 387 people. Some are found because somewhere on their profile they might have commented that life can sure be a roller coaster.
That said, among my early results was an International Ride Consultant. This person stated that he: specializes in bringing thrilling, cutting-edge roller coaster experiences to life.
When I changed the search results to show groups I found this: Amusement Park Ride Engineering, with 452 members...each of whom may be able to also offer guidance.
Hope this helps. Good fortune to you.
