What is the best way to jumpstart your career goals during college?
I already have a plan on what I want to do with my life, I'm just not sure where or how to start. I plan on becoming a genetic counselor and currently have my CNA, and I have already chosen a college to go to. I'm just trying to figure out where to go from here.

Hi Kaitlyn, wow that is awesome you've found an area you love already. I would recommend networking and finding a mentor or a sponsor. Once you start college, connect with the right department, clubs, or professors and start talking about your career goals. I bet you'll start making lots of connections, and you never know what opportunities may arise (think volunteering, internships, etc.) Best of luck to you!

Hi Kaitlyn,
The best advice I can offer is to actively network with professionals and organizations in your field. This could mean volunteering or applying for internships—anything that gives you hands-on experience. The more exposure and real-world knowledge you gain outside the classroom, the better positioned you'll be to jumpstart your career and stand out from other candidates.

Hello Kaitlyn,
It is good that you are thinking about starting your career and that you have college on your mind. In terms of how to get ready for your career, I would say to get experience in this field, connect with people in the field, focus on improving your skills, focus on your school work and keep exploring different options you have to progress. Create a plan and work hard to achieve your goals. Best of luck to you!

Start networking with folks in the field to learn what they did at first and go from there. Your pool of experts and mentors will grow and they will be able to point you in the right direction.
They may also know of areas you can start contributing to right away to get hands on experience which goes a long way. Good luck!
