When should I begin to look for internships within the field I would like to study ?

I am a high school senior getting ready for college in the upcoming fall semester. I would like to continue my education in interior architecture. I am looking forward to the opportunities in store for me, but when should I begin to look into internships? It may be overwhelming to accept an internship as a college freshman, when would be the best time?

Hi Martha, Starting to think about internships early in your college career is a great idea, especially in a specialized field like interior architecture.
During your freshman year, focus on adjusting to college, building a strong academic foundation, and becoming familiar with your department and professors. Take advantage of introductory courses and start networking with classmates, professors, and advisors. While finding internships as a freshman might be challenging, it’s an excellent time to explore related workshops, campus events, or part-time jobs that could provide some related experience.

Here are some strategies that you can use to look for internship opportunities:
1. Utilize Campus Resources: Career services at your college can be an invaluable resource. They often provide workshops, resume reviews, and interview preparation.
2. Networking: Attend industry conferences, guest lectures, and networking events to meet professionals and peers.
3. Research: Stay informed about firms in interior architecture. Follow them on social media to catch internship announcements. Look at company websites and explore their college internship programs
4. Create a strong resume and have it reviewed by peers and your campus career services

Good luck!
