Joseph’s Answer

Before starting your PhD program at Texas A&M, ask yourself: "What do I want to achieve six years from now with my doctorate?"

If you aim to teach college-level math, decide which classes you want to teach, like number theory or data science, and think about how you can help your students succeed in those areas.

If you want to be a researcher in a math-related field, focus on classes that will prepare you for research projects that interest you.

If you plan to work in the industry, choose courses that will equip you for roles after graduation, such as a data scientist or in Generative AI.

Andrew’s Answer

There are two possible scenarios pertaining to your question:

1. You have graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and you are going to graduate school for a Ph.D. in mathematics at Texas A&M. If this is the case, to be successful in your graduate school career, you should stay focused on your school work and work hard. The course load will be a lot more intense in graduate school.

2. You are starting out as a freshman at Texas A&M. If this is the case, stay focused on your mathematics curriculum and earn your bachelor’s degree in mathematics. You will get more ideas about your future aspirations for your postgraduate endeavor.
