What are some ways to help/give back to your community as a nursing student?

I want to give back to my community and I am unsure as to how to help my community if I am not an RN as of yet.

As was mentioned while you are in school you will be required to do clinical hours as a part of your school course work. Also where I live we have what is called the medical reserve corps, its run through the county and where I live they accept volunteers both credentialed/licensed and non-licensed and there are opportunities to help set up clinics, events in the community like first-aid tents. With the clinics a lot are done around flu season and when the covid vaccines were released. Volunteers helped with set up/break down, checking people in, helping people get to where they needed to be at. So check with your city/county where you live as there might be opportunities to assist. That's great you are still looking for a way to give back.

Volunteer at your local hospital or community clinic to help others and start building connections in the medical field. This experience will also give you a feel for working in a healthcare setting.

You can make a big difference in your community without being an RN. Start by contacting your local blood donation center to see if you can donate blood or volunteer. You could also organize a donation drive at your school. Consider spending time with residents at skilled nursing facilities by reading to them or simply chatting. Check if your local Free Health Care Clinic needs help with tasks like taking vital signs, registration, or translation. Lastly, reach out to local veterans groups like the Wounded Warrior Project or Veterans of Foreign Wars to see how you can assist veterans.

Hello, as a nursing student you'll have to complete "clinical" hours - working in the field. Some hours are required to be in the community & may be unpaid ( check with the school/ college that you attend in their career services dept.) There are so many organizations needing skilled nursing/ medical students: check with your city or community family services for free clinics, if you are bilingual (Span. Eng) this will be an asset too ! good luck
