What is something you wish you knew before studying for the MCAT??

I'm going into my second year of undergrad and I am hoping to apply to medical school in the next couple of years. I do not have any physician family members to turn to so any tips you can share will be greatly appreciated! #college #Spring25 #Medicine

I took the MCAT quite a few years ago, and it's changed a bit since then. I started medical school in 2015, so I probably took the test in 2013. Even though the test changes, it's still a standardized test. Preparing for the MCAT is a big task, so having a study plan is really helpful. You can even get an AI to help you create one quickly. There are also study courses available that might seem pricey, but they're worth it. They teach you test-taking skills that go beyond what you learned in college, and these skills are really important. I still use these courses for my board exams because the strategies are so useful.

Practice questions and full-length tests are key. Practice questions help you get used to how questions are asked since they're written by people you don’t know, not your usual teachers. Full-length tests help you manage your time better, so you don’t run out of time, which can really affect your score.

On test day, be confident. Stick to your usual routine. If you usually go for a run in the morning, do that. Bring plenty of snacks, even more than you think you’ll need—you can always take them home. If you tend to get headaches, bring pain medication, and if your eyes get dry from the computer screen, bring eye drops. Remember, you’ve studied hard and you’re ready. You can do this, and we’re all rooting for you! Good luck!

I am currently studying for the mcat as well. One piece of advice I was told various times is to ensure you aren’t spending too much time during content review. Spend more time doing practice questions and full length exams because that helps you find out if you retained the content review for that section. Also make a study plan early and commit to it as much as possible.
