What type of computer should I buy for college, and does it matter? I plan on being a bioengineer or biomedical engineering major and am about to start college in the fall.

I am going to be studying bioengineering in college.

Hey Imani!

First off, congrats on starting your college journey! Since you'll be in bioengineering, you'll need a computer that can handle basic tasks like creating documents, browsing, and any specialised software often used in this field. So when you’re making the purchase, make sure your computer has at least these specs:

- Processor: Intel Core i7+
- RAM: At least 16GB
- Storage: At least 512GB SSD (Make sure it’s SSD, not HDD—SSD is much faster)
- Operating System: Windows

These are the specifications I would recommend. Other than that, what it looks like, the size, and the colour are totally up to you. Just make sure the battery life is at least 7+ hours, so you don’t have to be running around campus looking for a charger.

The most important thing is to ensure it can handle your academic software, so it's always a good idea to check if your specific courses or labs have any recommended specs or software requirements.

Hope this helps! Best of luck with everything!
