Is it common for surgical technologists become surgeons, or do they just enjoy the assisting? If you are in surgical technology, what is your favorite part of the job? #Spring25

I don't think it would be very common. To become a surgeon, you have to have a bachelors (4 years), med school (4 more years), and complete a residency (3 years). Then, if you want to specialize, it's more training under a supervising surgeon.
I would imagine it's hard to make such a shift, since most of the above requires your full attention. It would be basically impossible to work as a tech while in med school. You'd have to have enough money to both pay for school and to live on while in school.
