Hello Kennidi,

Thank you for your question, I am happy to help you. I have prepared a few things that I find may be of great help to you as it was for me, especially in the early stages as a college student. I hope you are able to find this information helpful.

Schedule a Agenda

Check with your schools website and see if there are any upcoming dates available. Set alerts for the important dates that you find, this includes: events and activities. If you have your classroom schedule prepared, also make sure to include these dates in your calendar. This includes dates for your lectures. Scheduling an agenda is great for improving your time management skills, it’s difficult and takes time but you can do it!

Research

I would suggest familiarizing yourself in your field through research. As you are researching take detailed and organized notes in a way that is easy for you to understand and read. You can take physical notes with pen and paper or digital notes, whichever you find is most useful and comfortable for you. Through this you will come to understand the expectations of your field.

Time for Leisure

Your health and well-being is most important. It is easy to feel stressed, rushed, and discouraged in the process of preparation. Plan accordingly and make time for other activities and responsibilities. By creating a balance you’ll be more prepared for the first day of instruction.

I wish you success!

Laura’s Answer

Great question, Kennidi. Regardless of your program, take some time this summer to learn about different study habits and organization methods and explore what works best for you. For example, you might be a visual learner like I am, so taking hand-written notes that you color code or creating flash cards might help you retain information. There are many books you can read to help you understand options, and then it's just a matter of practicing to see what works for you. Leaning into this was tremendously helpful for me in college. I only wish I had gotten the advice sooner. Best of luck to you!

Michelle’s Answer

I have some advice for you below :

Michelle recommends the following next steps:

Get to know your campus by taking an orientation tour.
Read books and websites and watch videos about Sonography.
Do some volunteer work - any type of volunteer work will be great and keep you busy.
Explore what courses to take your first semester for both general education and the Diagnostic Medical Sonogrpahy Program.
Relax and try not to overthink or over plan every minute detail about college. Let things fall into place step by step.
