Is it necessary to get an international internship credit on your resume?

Within my program, it is customary to go to London and take an internship with local companies to meet the internship credit that my major requires. However, this comes with other costs and I worry as to whether the financial stress is worth it. #internships #intern

Hi Alexander,

Good question. For my major getting an internship during college was also encouraged and I felt pressured to compare myself to others that had the same major. Even if going to London to fulfill your internship credit is customary, if it is financially difficult for you to do it then you may want to find one in the US. There are tons of fantastic internship opportunities here in the United States and you likely will able to get a top notch internship comparable to London if you push yourself and do well enough in school to impress the place where you want to intern. I interned both domestically and overseas and the quality of my domestic internship was largely the same as my international one.

Also, look and see if you school has scholarships that help compensate for unpaid internships. I know that my school had this scholarship that offered up to 5K to people to help them offset their unpaid internship costs.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

Best,

Austin

There are people on your campus who can advise and assist you.
Start at your Career Cemter. There will be someone there who can assist or fever you to someone. Many colleges and universities assist with finances and can put you in touch with other students from your program who can share their experiences.
