Hi Andy,

This will be a question you hear in most interviews, and it is important to be able to answer confidently and comprehensively to start an interview out on a good foot.

This is an opportunity for you to develop an elevator pitch. Include the following in your answer:
1. An introduction: your name and where you are from
2. Education background: what did you study? where did you go to school?
3. Work experience: What past internships or jobs have you had?
4. Future goals: Connect your professional goals to the job you are interviewing for!
5. Hobbies/life outside of work: this can work as a great connection point with the interviewer and help to develop rapport.

Keep your answer to about two minutes or less. And leave room for questions- don't over explain!

This is a typical question many use to open interviews. This can also be referred to as an "elevator pitch" - something you could respond to quickly if you only had a couple of minutes with someone in an elevator Think about the message you would like to share with someone about yourself- something that speaks to your drive, goals, activities, character. This can include how you describe yourself and your professional goals, while also mentioning something you enjoy doing outside of work. Remember to keep your answers professional and do not disclose information that may be perceived as questionable or controversial (religion, politics, etc).

Karin’s Answer

Hi Andy,

This is a typical first question in an interview. It's at the same time kind of an icebreaker (because you should be comfortable talking about yourself) and a question that can set the tone for the interview. You should definitely prepare an answer (but don't memorize it, try to speak naturally).

You should tell them about your education, experiences and skills and how they relate to the position you applied for. Don't just recite your CV. They have seen that. Give a concise narrative of your professional self. Sort of an elevator pitch of why you are the perfect person for the job. Part of your preparation should be to go through the job description and filter out what they are looking for and how you can fulfill that role.

If you have relevant experiences in the type of job you are applying for, cite some highlights of previous jobs. Also give them a reason why you want this job and what your career aspirations are.

I hope this helps! All the best to you!
