Are there any Computational Genomics Entrepreneur or Professor?
Hello! a few days ago , I heard about this job which is computational genomics entrepreneur or professor , I was quite confused about it because I never knew that such a job existed . So for every person who studied computational genomics , can you tell me about your experience , how does it work , how is your job and most importantly what you did to get to that stage of being a computational genomics professor or entrepreneur?

From my conversations with my co-workers at Velsera, I can tell you that usually those who are interested in pursuing a career in computational genomics should have at least a masters degree or a PhD (in bioinformatics or related field). If you want to be an entrepreneur, having a strong research (PhD) or business background (MBA) would help. The founder of PierianDx has an MD-PhD, meaning they are both a medical doctor as well as a researcher. Since genomics is strongly tied to medicine, this gave the founder a strong background to pursue this career.
My recommendation is pursue an MBA and/or PhD in computation genomics (or bioinformatics) to build a strong foundation in the field. With a PhD, you can become a PI (Principal Investigator) in a lab and pursue your own research, which could take off into a business if you would like. With an MBA, you could partner with a researcher in computation genomics and help them start a business.
If you are interested in being a professor, I would recommend looking into what teaching credentials you might need to pick up. Typically, many professors also have PhDs.
Hope this helps!
