Ifeoma’s Answer

A typical day for an informatics nurse specialist involves both nursing and tech tasks. They:

Work with healthcare teams to improve electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Analyze data to help doctors and nurses make better decisions.

Train staff on new software or updates.

Troubleshoot system issues and ensure patient data is accurate and secure.

Attend meetings to plan technology improvements in the hospital.

Their days are usually spent in an office or hospital IT department, focusing on how technology can make patient care safer and more efficient.

Kristen’s Answer

Good morning, Skylar! I am a Work Comp Insurance nurse that recently moved over to the business side of our company where I now manage multiple vendor services for our work comp line of business. We contract for services like translation (for injured workers that do not speak english) and transportation (when they are injured and cannot drive-like a broken leg). I used to work at a hospital as an Ortho Nurse and came over to Insurance 20+ years ago. I am also familiar with informatics, and those nurses focus on working on Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and work along with IT teams, review updates from systems, attend meetings, communicate informatics (documentation, decision tools, obtain feedback from healthcare nurses and doctors about systems they are using). They work on many projects day to day and provide training as well as help trouble shoot system issues.
