Philip’s Answer

Hi jacob,

My Father was a Line Supervisor for National Grid and he still works for them to this day. I can say that his home life seemed pretty good. He was always around for the big things and his job paid pretty good. I work in Nuclear but deal with T&D (Transmission & Distribution) People pretty frequently.

Usually, they work Dayshift and get overtime if there's extra work that needs to be accomplished. The toughest times for Power Linemen are following storms and during restoration periods. For instance, down here in Louisiana following Hurricane Ida there were crews working around the clock for a week straight. Some of them travelled from out of state and lived in FEMA provided Shelters/campers while they helped restore power. They all got paid overtime and had all their meals paid for, but that was a lot of work recovering from that storm. In the North, Snowstorms or Ice Storms are just as bad as hurricanes down here in the south.

The Linemen I know and have worked with are all very happy with their jobs and it doesn't seem to impact their home lives.
